With a proud history of service, the co-op operates 20 grain facilities—including several dedicated to food-grade corn—manages a cotton gin and provides a full line of fertilizer products to meet the crop input needs of its members. Position Summary:

The General Manager provides overall leadership and strategic direction for Hereford Grain Corp’s diverse operations, including grain handling and storage, cotton ginning, and fertilizer sales and service. This role requires an experienced, visionary leader who can manage multi-faceted operations, ensure financial performance, and maintain strong engagement with cooperative members and employees.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Oversight:

  • Direct daily operations across grain elevators, the cotton gin, and fertilizer sales and service.

  • Ensure that all facilities operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with state and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).

  • Implement and oversee maintenance and capital improvement plans for equipment and facilities.

Agronomy & Fertilizer Management:

  • Supervise fertilizer operations, including inventory management, pricing strategies, and service delivery to customers.

  • Work with agronomists and sales staff to develop strong relationships and build value-added services for growers.

Financial & Strategic Leadership:

  • Prepare annual operating budgets and long-range strategic plans for all departments.

  • Monitor financial performance and lead initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and grow revenue across all business units.

  • Maintain proper risk management practices related to grain marketing, input pricing, and credit extension.

Team Development & Human Resources:

  • Build and retain a high-performing team, lead hiring, coaching, training, and succession planning.

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and foster employee engagement and leadership development.

 Member & Board Relations:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the cooperative’s operations and its Board of Directors.

  • Maintain consistent communication with the board, providing updates on performance, challenges, and opportunities.

  • Strengthen relationships with members by understanding their needs and ensuring the co-op continues to deliver value.

Industry & Community Engagement:

  • Represent Hereford Grain Corp in industry meetings, cooperative organizations, and community events.

  • Stay current on trends in grain markets, ginning technology, fertilizer products, and cooperative governance.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years in agricultural management with experience in at least two of the following areas: grain operations, cotton ginning, fertilizer/agronomy services.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing staff and achieving performance goals across diverse operations.

  • Strong knowledge of cooperative principles and agricultural business models.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Financial acumen, including budgeting, analysis, and strategic planning.

  • Ability to lead teams, manage change, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Knowledge of agricultural regulations, safety standards, and risk management practices.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with regular site visits to grain, gin, and fertilizer operations.

  • Some extended hours required during peak seasons.

  • Travel for vendor meetings, industry events, or board functions may be necessary.
